Well, Happy New Year from your Deeper Story family!

We hope that this is already proving a lovely time for you and yours. As we stretch our limbs post-holiday and the web begins to pulse again with new content, we’d like to share a handful of links here that caught our eye in the past week and were not from our own regular contributors. Here’s a collection of things our own writers found excellent, funny, pointed, or lovely.

Bravest:

Jamie the Very Worst Missionary with Jesus or Zoloft

But, I’ll say it again, Jesus is not all you need.

Truest:

Dianna Anderson with A Monstrous God, and the series that is forthcoming

[trigger warning: rape apologism]

God does not ordain this pain. God does not will that people suffer. God does not hate women. And God does not punish women merely for existing.

Most Poetic:

Hilary Sherratt with He made you this promise

I take a deep breath, close my eyes, and suddenly, I hear His reminder: I make these promises to all my people. You, tonight, are my people. You, tonight, are the messenger for this promise. Won’t you tell these bright faces what I have promised them?

Best Response:

Kristen Howerton with Dear Pastor Mark: Pontificate This

I can see where bloggers may not be your favorite group of people right now. I know that your tweet wasn’t directed at me per se, but I suspect it was either directed at one of my friends, or a indictment of bloggers in general.

Wisest:

Antonia Terrazas with to the girl who wants a boy for Christmas.

Because it is hard being the excited friend all the time, feeling all sidelineish. You’re scared to admit that the fact that you are genuinely ridiculously overjoyed to get save-the-dates in the mail and to wedding-scheme with your friends and to walk before them down the aisle almost makes the way out a little more tricky.

Happy-Making:

I appreciate the link-ups. I’m troubled that Dear Pastor Mark Pontificate This was in the line up purely because I saw no grace in the response. It was a good piece of writing, perhaps holds much truth – but as someone not in Evangelical circles, this gives the world a window into the divisiveness, lack of grace, and meanness that characterizes the American evangelical church. Please don’t misunderstand me – I say this with great respect for A Deeper Story and the writer of the piece. (I also left a response on the piece itself)

Everyone should be looking at everyones “one word” I picked unashamed and am already seeing how awesome it is going to be! I have seen some truly thought provokng posts about people and their one word. The best thing I did this week was “Name and claim” my own battles with depression. http://accidentaldevotional.com/2013/01/10/name-claim-believe-receive-on-depression-and-healing/

Loved to see the Mark Driscoll link. I already read the piece this morning when I started wondering why there were so many visits to my own blog artice on Driscoll at http://watchtheshepherd.blogspot.com/2012/03/why-im-not-fan-of-mark-driscoll-real.html. Apparently she linked up to me, and she obviously has a bazillion readers. I’m a small time blogger, but my stats from her link shot up to more than 500 a day from my usual 25. Methinks people are pretty ticked at Driscoll in the blogosphere?

I tried commenting here a few hours ago, but it hasn’t shown up. Kristen Howerton must have a huge following because she linked my article on Mark Driscoll from hers, and I’ve gotten over 1000 hits from it since she posted yesterday. :-) Seems like it’s folks are getting even more ticked at Pastor Mark as the days and Tweets go by?
