It took a while to pick a word, but I landed on SOAR. It’s big, it’s scary, and it makes me have to spend the next year being brave and letting go. I think it will be a good fit!

    This year it’s PRESENT.

Because I don’t want to miss all the Beauty in the beauty I’ve been missing. And it’s address is always NOW.

I can’t seem to shake my word from last year, so I’m just lingering with it a bit longer. (I might just have to make it my life word & move on…) But I have to say, reading these “one words” and the hearts behind them have become a favorite part of New Year’s – they speak so much hope and courage into the new year, into me. Love the One Word community.

My one word is Faith. The substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. It crept up on me, and at first I resisted because it seemed so “basic” – but basics are good. I keep thinking, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.”

My word is EFFERVESCENT and I know that sounds weird, but if just felt right: http://www.parentingmiracles.net/2013/01/my-word-for-2013/

My one word is HOPE ~ I’m a survivor and I advocate and mentor women who have been abused, and those who have been trafficked into the global sex trade. I was honored to be asked to share my message at a TEDx conference this summer. The video can be found on my home page posted above.

This is the first time that I have asked God for a word. My word is REST: http://goo.gl/iRj1g

  20. Tessa January 4, 2013 at 9:54 am #

My word for the year is “beauty.” It’s been a brewing prayer for a while now to see beauty more clearly, create beauty in life and relationships and surroundings, and to recognize aloud the beauty I see around me. Because beauty points to God and we all need to recognize him a little better in our lives.

    Compassion.

I found a link to One Word 365 on the Facebook of “Love and Respect NOW.” No sooner had a read the ‘about’ of One Word 365 on the blog and the Holy Spirit planted (smacked, more like it) “COMPASSION!” into my spirit. I’m very excited to see how my year will be shaped by intentionally focusing on reflecting the compassion of God.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.” Lam. 3:22

  35. Dena G January 4, 2013 at 6:10 pm #

My word for this year is “PROCLAIM”. It could be nothing else…in the first three days of 2013, I ran headlong into Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:18-19 (“The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”)a total of FIVE times from non-related sources. If that’s not God trying to get my attention, I don’t know what is! I have no idea what this will look like, but I’m so excited to find out.

BELIEVE! “I had been deceived as to what my sin really was. I realized it was actually a pattern in my life, that there were different levels of unbelief I had been contending with for years, but I had been calling it by other names. Anxiety, fear, jealousy, anger, despair.”

Last year was my first year participating and my word was SECURE (in the sense of being deeply rooted and secure in Christ, more than just ‘self-confident’). And there seems to be a continuing theme :) … the word that found me for this year is WORTHY and I’m excited for the year ahead.

I’ve been on a journey towards a more intentional life for a few years now, but I’m finding myself bogged down in the details and decisions. This year I’m balancing intention with my one word: OPEN.
